Our role as Neighborhood Chaplains is to help anyone who needs help because life is hard, and our job is to love. When we realize that 70% of people around us are without a pastor, a church, a place to connect spiritually, we see the need for the availability of spiritual care.
In the training manual "Community Chaplains Care Guide," the need is described in the following way:
Over the next 12 months in neighborhoods near you:
- 28 babies will be born
- 75 hospitalizations will occur
- 300 people will experience a major life crisis
- 42 divorces will occur
Over the next 12 months in workplaces near you:
- 160 co-workers will grieve the death of a family member
- 200 co-workers will experience a job change or job loss
- 400 co-workers will face financial challenges
- 68 co-workers will be impacted by suicide
Over the next 12 months in schools near you:
- 340 students will be involved in car accidents
- 860 students will experiment with alcohol or drugs
- 960 students will engage in sexual activity
- 380 students will seriously consider suicide
- 100% will experience the ups and downs of adolescence
